NC Hillel Expands Development Team

North Carolina Hillel is pleased to announce two updates to its staff development team. With the mounting challenges to creating Jewish community on campus and Jewish students increasingly dispersed across the UNC System, supporting our students requires ever-increasing resources. These two professionals will play key roles in strengthening our partnerships with our many supporters so we can more effectively fulfill our mission.

Jamie Schecter Krusch has been promoted to NC Hillel’s Director of Development. She will continue her work as the Director of Student Life at UNC Charlotte Hillel, where she has been building Jewish community and dramatically increasing student engagement since 2016, quadrupling the number of students involved in UNCC Hillel. Jamie has enjoyed working with our amazing students at UNCC and strengthening key relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff to make UNCC Hillel a wonderful home away from home for our Jewish Niners.

Jamie was our first full-time staff member in Charlotte. Four years later, we are excited to see her thrive in her expanded role, helping to craft and implement our development strategy. Whether presenting to foundations, meeting new parents, or grabbing coffee with donors, Jamie is proud to share the NC Hillel story. She is eager to work alongside our many partners who share our commitment to delivering North Carolina’s Jewish future.

“It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside such fantastic students to build UNCC’s Jewish community over the past four and-a-half years," Jamie reflected. "Our Niners have created a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment. I'm excited to continue this work on campus, and having witnessed firsthand how profoundly Hillel can inspire our students, I can't wait to share their stories - and those of other students across the state - with everyone who cares about our students and the future of the Jewish people.”

Sara Gottschalk has joined the NC Hillel team as its Development & Communications Associate. A former NC Hillel student leader at UNC Greensboro (holding various board positions, including president), Sara brings her perspective as a recent alumna and her Jewish non-profit development skills to support the continued growth of our Hillels across the state. During her senior year at UNCG, Sara was introduced to the world of professional community-building as the Programs Intern at the Greensboro Jewish Federation. From there, she has honed both her programming and development skills in support of Jewish young adults across the globe while working at Moishe House and the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater.

“Working at NC Hillel means so much to me,” Sara said. “I get to give back to the organization that helped shape who I am today. Learning how we operate behind-the-scenes and seeing firsthand the countless hours that go into building community among NC’s Jewish students has made me appreciate all the more how much NC Hillel cares about its students, alumni, and other stakeholders. As a student, I felt the magic of our statewide connection and now, as a professional, I am able to draw on that unique quality of our NC Hillel system to help ensure North Carolina’s Jewish future.”
