New NC Hillel Executive Director

Following a nationwide search, North Carolina Hillel’s Board of Directors is thrilled to announce that they have hired Hannah Gutterman Spinrad as the new Executive Director, effective June 1, 2022.

As the current Campus Director of UNC Chapel Hill Hillel, Hannah has led the Carolina team for two years, helping to craft and implement NC Hillel’s vision and strategic plan by engaging a vibrant, pluralistic Jewish community at UNC. In partnership with the University administration and Hillel International, Hannah is the lead professional on the Campus Climate Initiative, addressing antisemitism and the Jewish experience at UNC. She has already piloted several new philanthropic efforts for NC Hillel, including the ACC Fundraising Challenge and Tar Heel Tzedakah, a student giving circle.

Hannah is a proud Tar Heel alumna, with a BA in International Studies and minors in Spanish and Jewish Studies, and a fifth generation North Carolinian. A native of Greensboro, she now lives in Chapel Hill with her husband, Kyle, and daughters, Miriam and Noa.

Between graduating from UNC and stepping into her dream role at UNC Hillel, Hannah earned her MBA in Nonprofit Management and MA in Jewish Professional Leadership from the Hornstein-Heller Program at Brandeis University. She is also an alumna of the Jewish Federations of North America FEREP Program. Professionally, Hannah was the first Atlanta Director of Community Engagement for Honeymoon Israel and worked in the development departments for the Jewish Federations of Boston, Miami, and Atlanta.

We look forward to working with Hannah to carry out our new strategic plan and are proud of the many successes Ari Gauss has accomplished throughout his 13-year tenure as our Executive Director. As we prepare for this transition, we are celebrating Ari with a campaign to support his long-standing vision of attracting, training, and retaining outstanding staff, who are indispensable to fulfilling our mission. Please consider a gift, if you have not yet made one, to the Excellence Fund in his honor.
